![]() ![]() More on that sobering news regarding hardware and the playback of Hollywood’s latest and greatest 2160p, HDR epics. PowerDVD 17 understands a multitude of video formats. It’s also acquired two interface modes: one for when you’re sitting on your couch with a remote control, 10 feet back from your TV and a second for when you’re sitting at a desk (or with a laptop in your lap). Over the years, it’s morphed into more of a universal audio/video/image player and librarian. The name should tell you all you need to know about PowerDVD’s origins: It was designed back in the day to play movie CDs and DVDs using PC optical drives. And now, with version 17, I could connect a VR headset and watch brand-new Ultra HD Blu-ray HDR content-if I owned the very select type of hardware that’s required to play back VR and Ultra HD Blu-ray HDR content. I use it almost exclusively when watching older movies. It handles audio, video (3D and 2D), images (2D and 3D), and even social media, all the while enhancing the looks or sound of just about all of it. The best bet is to do this over 24 hours when nothing is going on.When it comes to playing back multimedia on your PC, there is no program with the breadth of features or playback quality that can beat PowerDVD Ultra. If you play anything videos or audio, it will fail to build the library. As a note, I find it does not do background processing very well. Knowing PowerDVD, it will probably churn overnight or longer, but it should pick it all up. Then, set the library folders correctly again. Close then reopen and force a clean library. I would remove all the drives and folders from the settings. I have always thought the library funcitonality in PowerDVD was well below par. Deleted titles would not disappear even though they were no longer on the drive and moved or readded titles would not be correctly registered in the library. It usually occurred after one or two changes to the titles. I see no way to force PowerDVD 17 Ultra to totallly rebuild its Media Library correctly. I've let the program run with its spinning disk a long time, but it doesn't find anything else. When I installed PowerDVD 17 Ultra, I told the installation to reuse the same settings.īut PowerDVD 17 Ultra finds only some photos and videos-perhaps those created in 2015 and before. ![]() Quote PowerDVD 16 Ultra correctly built a Media Library of all my photos and videos (in the Photos and Videos folders and their subfolders). ![]()
